[...] Poetry Talk with Ginny Kaczmarek I like so many different poets for different reasons, and I’m always discovering new ones (or old ones I never read deeply before). I go through phases, too. Lately I’m really into formalist poetry, sonnets, villanelles, rhymes and meter, so I’ve been reading Gwendolyn Brooks, Claude McKay, for their takes on old forms. I love Thom Gunn, who wrote formal, British- proper poetry about biker gangs and his gay lovers and the plague of AIDS in the ’80s. Annie Finch inspires me with her feminist formalist experiments… [...]

I love the comment about contradictions. I think everywhere you live while living the human experience is to some extent that way. Maybe that's why people are drawn to NO, it points out the truth of the human condition in a way you can take a photo of. Thanks for introducing me to this poet whose last name I would have to copy/paste to get it right ;)

This is a great interview -- really interesting and inspiring. I like how Ginny says that "no thank you" isn't the end of the world, and that you shouldn't let a bruised ego keep you from submitting. Lots of very helpful ideas in this. Thank you!

Knowing Ginny for many years, I can say I loved seeing the professional side of her answers. She is very talented and always has been a "thinker"--I enjoyed the interview very much! Thank you!

I love how she said that you write until sometimes it surprises you - like the work has a way of creating itself via you - sweet!

I came across a project a while ago somewhere I think in the midwest where the town stamped poems written by local residents into a stretch of new sidewalk to promote literacy through poems in everyday life. I thought that was a tremendous idea and forwarded it along to our library - who of course doesn't have the money but loved the idea. Imagine sidewalks filled with words - and all the lamposts we'd bump into along the way so absorbed in them ;0)
