Who Does He Think He’s Fooling?
Conversation at bedtime:
The Boy: Can you leave the door open?
Me: I’ll open it after you fall asleep.
Close door, and approx five seconds later:
The Boy: I’m asleep now!
Me: I can tell that you’re not.
The Boy: Oh, okay. (pause) Now I’m asleep.
I open the door.
Me: Buddy, if you’re still talking to me, then I know you’re not asleep.
As I am about to close the door, I hear a whisper: “What if I talk like this?”

Hahaha. If only saying something made it true.
I remember always wanting my door open too - it seemed like a real punishment to have it closed.
That’s hilarious. When I was young my mom told me I talk and laugh in my sleep, so I stayed up for a long time hoping to catch myself doing it.
Aww…I find myself missing my kids at that age! It’s so sweet when they say utterly daft things like that and don’t realize they’ve done it.
