Well, it wasn't a movie, but that "Crepes of Wrath" episode of the Simpsons was most excellent. As I recall, Bart gets sent to France thinking he'll live in a chateau, but ends up way out the wine country in a little shack with two crooked French vintners who enslave him and let him eat a turnip for dinner. Meanwhile back at the ranch, the rest of the Simpsons take in a little boy from Albania, and Homer thinks this makes the kid "albino." He is actually a spy boy who faxes pictures of the nuclear power plant from Bart's treehouse. Classic.

Lol, so true! I never really gave it much though, but "the foreign exchange student" really is such a movie ploy. I certainly never knew any foreign exchange students like that. (Which is probably for the best.)

My fam hosted 4 exchange students through the years, and one of them was given an ultimatum of being kicked out of German High School or be an exchange student for a year.... much different than the movies

Um...I was an exchange student myself, when I was in graduate school. What a crashing great disappointment I must have been.

That American Pie one? It happens ALL the time...in adolescent boys' fantasies.

I know! What is it with exchange students that brings out all our stereotypes, whether positive or negative?

This was a great list.

On TV, we have not-quite-exchange-student Korean child adoptee in Arrested Development. That was pretty funny, sort of equal opportunity mocking.
