Me. Humiliating Myself. For Your Viewing Pleasure.
Regarding the other post I wrote about Harry Potter the Musical, here is the footage from the Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference of me performing it in the contest. Thank you to Lisa Angle for videotaping the contest.
To recap, this was for a speedwriting competition. I was given a half hour to write a song for a musical based on the book Harry Potter (any one of them). This is the opening number to the first book.

Here I thought that you had completely lost your edge.
You are so talented, Riley! I’m GREEN with envy and awed by your talent.
That was freaking awesome. So how much longer until you finish the entire series? Maybe a little Harry Potter on ice action?
Hey, Wayne took the words right out of my mouth - that was freaking awesome. Complete with arm gestures it was even better than I imagined. Now you need to write a song called “He’s back!” hahaha!
Too funny!! That was great!!
Brilliantly done. They ought to sign you up to do a play.
That was awesome! Well done.
I thought it was great! Very entertaining and very impressive!
Well, this did not disappoint; I concur with the other commenters! My daughter watched it with me and she enjoyed it too.
And you look exactly as I pictured you would, for some reason. Honestly, I think I could have picked you out of a crowd.
Bravo!
Encore!
You. Are. So. Brave.
I get hives even considering SPEAKING in front of people, like when I was in school and had to read a report for the class. I would shiver and stumble so badly.
On top of that, I sing SO badly in my car that something I bust up laughing at my own horror!
But you managed to do both, IN FRONT OF PEOPLE!!
See!! If I have a hero in my life, it’s you.
I LOVE this! You rock. And you’re so brave, too! I might write something like this but I’d be totally chicken about singing it.
